Tandem Hearts

From its case first opened
Comes familiar smell
Wood’s oil aroma drifting
Rise within her well

Deep tones echo in her
Sound hole hollow beating
Harmonic tones pulsed in hand
Melodic interlude fleeting

Touched for only a moment
By velvet’s soft embrace
Her blue royal beauty
Mirrored in his face

Adjusting gently each string
Of that heart inside
Tuning the rhythm of two beats
Tears drop from two eyes

Falling on one string that touch
Echoing of two
Overtones in sadness
Twelve-bars played in blues

Amplifier squealing
Distortion feedbacks’ reign
Crying in rejection from
Two hearts born in pain

When finally lights go softly down
And there upon the stage
He stands alone with love in hands
Naked, unafraid

Singing soft vibrato strings
Touched with silver darts
Pulsed harmonic melody
Beating tandem hearts

The Tears

Within me runs a simple stream
From heart, to eyes, to cheek,
A stream of tears I cry for you
Along each salted streak.

What if I weren’t in love with you?
Would tears be wasted words?
Those spoken by my heart to yours,
Each sung in perfect thirds?

Such music fills my ears today.
I sit and cry this verse.
Poetic dreams pour from that stream.
Fell crying as I curse.

A curse to all the loneliness,
I weep incessant tears,
And pray you hold me once again,
And too, my waning fears.

For in your arms I find my way
Through pages of heart’s tome,
Once written by your promised love
That always leads me home.
