Abandoned Independence
The abandoned independence
was unexpected. Yet, it came
with rage from desperations hold,
sightless, degenerations pen.
Darkness in age of frailty
The abandoned independence
robbed the body of appetite,
lack of brain food, memory loss
Without stimulation life spins
quickly into the blackest pit.
The abandoned independence
reinforces negative thoughts.
Seldom can the strong-willed person
find comfort when freedom is lost.
The mind loses its cohesion,
the abandoned independence.

Miss Betty
Miss Betty stands five foot two,
a manic-depressive with a loose screw.
A widow before
Bill entered her door
and stirred the alcohol stew.
One night she was sitting around,
feeling useless as an old hound.
Her mind seemed to snap,
her feet did a tap,
she left for some livelier ground.
When reality stumbled and fell,
Miss Betty rose with manias spell,
singing aloud
as she walked in the crowd
at the bar on the corner of Bell.
Miss Betty was running on high,
her gown barely touching her thigh.
The barkeep then saw
Miss Betty go raw,
he dialed 9-1-1, downed a rye.
The patrons were laughing and pointing
when Miss Betty fell anointing
the crowd with her drink
as she fell down the sink
at the bar where the keep was recounting.
The minutes ticked by as they waited,
Miss Betty was crying, deflated.
The manic part gone
as depression came on
when medics arrived and sedated.
Miss Betty took time to recover.
Of that night, shes yet to discover
all that she did
while mania slid
reality under cover.
